Curtain Up!

 Hello World!

I’ve spent about two days trying to figure out what I’m going to write on this blog and I’ve barely gotten anywhere, so I’m just gonna be honest - I really don’t know where this is going! But it’s going, and I hope you’ll decide to come along.

If you love singing, dancing, art, writing, flowers, pizza, lighting, reading, shirley temples, New York, city life, or (most importantly!) Broadway(✨), then you are one eclectic person, but that also means you’re a person who is a lot like me. As a young theater junkie with big plans and even bigger dreams, I’m hoping my future will include most if not all of the things listed above!

It’s one thing to be into musicals, but to be into BEING in musicals is a whole other bag of marbles, and it takes a journey. This blog is about my journey.

For my golden birthday last year, I got to visit New York City. I had actually been there three times before, but incredibly, INSANELY, I had never seen a Broadway show. Never. My poor, deprived musical theater self was dying to visit Times Square and the Gershwin and steep myself in the rich tea that is the world of live theater.

I still remember sitting in that dark auditorium as the band struck up the overture. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest, hear the whispers of other audience members dying out as the swell of music took over. As I was transported, as we were all transported into a new world. A world where humans break into spontaneous group dance and song numbers and no one questions it.

That was it. I was “🎶...caught, hook, line, and sinker!🎵”. 🌊

(Another thing I like is references, especially when they’re from musicals because those are pretty much the only references I get. So keep an eye (or ear) out!)

That was over a year ago, but it has continued to fuel the theater spark within me since then. It’s my dream to make it to the City That Never Sleeps and perform on Broadway! It sounds cheesy, and I’m not saying that it isn’t, but it's also a genuine dream. So, “🎶Just you wait!🎵”. I’ll be there one day.

On that trip I started making my own Broadway encyclopedia. I’m always disappointed by the ones that I can get my hands on at the library or bookstore - they don’t have some of my hole-in-the-wall favourites, they don’t have the kind of information I want to know, that sort of thing. Plus, it's impossible to keep up with all the new shows that artists and creatives keep pumping out! But that Book of Broadway has stayed on my computer, unread and unloved. It’s time to share it!

I’m planning for La Vie en Rosie to be a place for my thoughts on shows, secrets I’ve learned from behind the stage door, tips and tricks, photographs, and more. So buckle up, and get ready to rock and roll!

The last thing I want to tell you about is the origin of my blog name. In my freshman year of high school, I got to play a role that remains my favourite to this day: Rosie DeLeon in Bye Bye Birdie. I had a complete blast singing her songs and portraying her spunk and determination, not to mention the wonderful actors and friends I got to perform with! She is definitely deserving of her own blog, and therefore this blog’s namesake.

Finally, I’d like to thank you if you found your way to my tiny corner of the internet! For what is a performer without an audience? Your eyes, ears, and support mean more than I can say. I also want to thank my friends behind The Beahive, Scribbles of Color, and LAL Production Co. for inspiring me to start a blog. Go visit their sites!

Make sure to stop and smell the roses! Curtain up!
